Testimonials for Empowered Movement for Pain
Faith F.
EMP made it a lot less scary to check-in with my body because it gave me the skills to know I would be able to figure out ways to move that were safe for me. I didn't realize how critical body awareness was until I utilized these skills out in the world and was rewarded by being able to do a physical activity I haven't done since my pain started five years ago.

Dena is thorough and thoughtful in her approach, as well as extremely knowledgeable, particularly about pain science and how our brains can be retrained to reduce our perception of pain. During the course, she shared many concepts that made a light bulb go on for me. For instance, because of our sessions, I finally understood the connection between focused breathing and reducing pain.

Dena is such an invaluable, unconditionally positive and healing teacher. With the perfect balance of instruction around pain science and guided exercises, I gained the ability to more confidently move through and with pain in my body. Dena helped me understand that my brain/body has the capacity to move in ways that will support and heal itself even when I am experiencing a flare-up.

This class helped me better understand the role that mental and emotional states play in amplifying and easing pain. The techniques Dena shared for calming the nervous system were as helpful to me as the specific movement practices. I'm coming away from this class with a plan of personalized practice that I'm excited to do every morning because I think it will really help me heal my pain.

This course taught me that a small amount of targeted movement goes a long way towards managing my pain. It has also encouraged me to stop for a few minutes throughout the day and do a bit of movement. I now have a better idea of my own personal safe range of motion for my muscles, nerves, and joints. I was surprised by how much my body awareness increased and I learned to coach myself in yoga poses. I feel content after 15-20 minutes of movement, in addition to having confidence that my day most likely will proceed with a better chance of my body feeling good.

I have severe on-going pain from bilateral hip osteoarthritis. Dena's class gave me good tools and techniques to deal with and manage pain, and the physical and mental stresses associated with both on-going and surprise pain events. Dena is a great teacher and structured the class to teach and reinforce these tools and our own capabilities to overcome and thrive despite pain.
